01The problem

Paper in the field becomes a spreadsheet no one trusts.

  • 01Field readings get written on paper or in a notebook, then re-typed into a spreadsheet back at the office.
  • 02Calculations run on one person's formulas — nothing gates an out-of-range reading before it becomes a certificate.
  • 03Certificates and reports get built by hand, one at a time, from whatever the spreadsheet says that day.
  • 04When a customer or regulator asks for evidence, someone has to reconstruct it after the fact.

02Proof, in production

Two decades of Excel, now software the survey team runs.

Aptixx built a draft-survey platform for a marine surveying firm on the BC coast, replacing a survey workflow that had run on Excel for two decades. The client's survey team uses it in production today.

  • 01Six-point and four-point freeboard reading modes, selectable per survey stage.
  • 02Freeboard-indexed hydrostatic interpolation with hard out-of-range gates, plus bilinear freeboard-by-trim interpolation.
  • 03Dock-water density correction, using each barge's own table density.
  • 04Branded, signed PDF survey certificates and daily production reports, generated by the system itself.

A fleet-wide hydrostatic audit ran read-only against production across all 17 barges — and the engine reproduced a previously issued, signed survey certificate to the cent.

03The pattern

Capture once. Calculate the same way every time. Report without re-typing.

The same three moves work anywhere field data has to become a document: capture it once at the source, run it through calculations nobody can quietly override, and generate the report from that same record.

Capture

Field data enters the system once, at the source, in the format the calculation needs.

Calculate

Domain rules run the same way every time, with hard gates on anything out of range — not a formula only one person understands.

Certify

Reports and certificates generate from the same record that was captured and calculated, not a re-typed summary.

04How Aptixx designs for the field

Designed for a phone at a dock, not a browser at a desk.

Field work happens away from a desk and away from a stable connection, so mobile capture and weak-signal tolerance are design constraints from the first sketch.

This is part of the broader operational software Aptixx builds for teams running complex work outside an office.

05How it starts

The field workflow gets mapped before the build is priced.

A paid discovery sprint maps what your crews capture, what has to be calculated from it, and what has to hold up later as evidence. You keep the map, the prototype, and the build definition either way.

The fit call takes 20 minutes and costs nothing. Bring one survey, one route, or one inspection form and you leave with a read on whether it is worth building.

Next step

Start with the reading your crew takes first.

A 20-minute fit call on what the field captures today and what it should produce on its own — certificates, reports, or the evidence behind both.
